Sale typeWhat you actually buy. A lien sale gives you a claim on the property and the owner keeps it for now; a deed sale transfers the property itself. A redeemable deed transfers ownership but still gives the former owner time to pay you back. In person

1.A tax lien attaches to the property at its valuation (January 1), and on December 31 of each year the Tax Commissioner issues an execution (Fi.Fa.) against all delinquent taxpayers (O.C.G.A. 48-2-56, 48-3-3)
2.Tax sales are held each month, generally April through December, on the first Tuesday of the month on the courthouse steps at 12:00 p.m. or sooner
3.Notice of the sale is published once a week for four weeks immediately preceding the sale in the county's legal organ, presently The Champion Newspaper
4.Review the official Tax Sale Property Listings and complete the Tax Sale Pre-Registration Portal if you plan to bid
5.Bidding commences at the total of taxes and costs (levy, recording, advertising, and commissions) on each parcel, and the property is sold to the highest bidder; if there are no bidders the County may enter a bid equal to the starting bid
6.The owner or any person with a right, title, interest, or lien may redeem within 12 months by paying the purchase price plus 20 percent for the first year and 10 percent for each additional year
7.After 12 months the purchaser may bar or foreclose the right of redemption by proper notice served on all parties with recorded interests
