Alaska does not auction tax liens or conduct a competitive bidder sale under state statute. Real property tax delinquencies are enforced by annual, in rem foreclosure: the municipality publishes a foreclosure list, obtains a judgment, and takes property directly for the lien amount (AS 29.45.320, 29.45.330, 29.45.390). The property is held at least one year for redemption (AS 29.45.400) and then deeded to the borough or city (AS 29.45.450); the municipality decides by ordinance whether to keep it or sell it, and property not needed for a public purpose may be sold (AS 29.45.460). Because the state statute leaves the method and terms of any later sale of tax-foreclosed property to municipal ordinance, bidder registration, deposits, bidder identification, payment instruments, eligibility limits, and the sale format are all unknown at the state level. The former record owner has a 10-year statutory right to repurchase before the municipality sells (AS 29.45.470(a)).
